“The state of the internet” does seem uncertain. The web is exploding and nothing puts it in perspective like a good old fashion video montage with some technical music.. It does make you think though. Sites like Facebook and Youtube are so important in today’s world. If something were to happen to them, we may not be prepared or fully understand the effects it would have.(via Static)
I knew i wanted a compact tweetmeme button for my tumblr post but wasn’t sure if it could be done. Long story short, I took my issue to a Google search query and quickly found the solution I was looking for.
I’ve added a Tweetmeme button to this Tumblr. It didn’t take me long to figure out where it should go in my theme, Tweetmeme have a good system so installing it is quite simple. Tweetmeme didn’t seem to pick up on individual post URLs which is why you need to remember to include the line
tweetmeme_url = ‘{Permalink}’;
Here’s how I did it…
Use OpenDNS for Added Security
I use DSLExtreme as my internet service provider and i’m moderately happy with my service. I probably should up the speed though. Today i had a lot of trouble with my internet service and it quickly became very frustrating to figure out.
If you are someone who has ever had networking problems then you probably know just how i feel. I probably tried ever trick, setting and troubleshooting procedure to find out just why the heck my connection was dropping out so much and eventually not working at all.
Eventually i figured out the issue, my ISPs desired DNS servers were either down or experiencing difficulties.. DNS or Domain Name System is basically a database that lists all domains, like yahoo.com or youtube.com and translates them to the appropriate IP Address. This happens because domain names are easier for humans to remember than a bunch of numbers.
Anyway, I switched from the DNS databases my ISP uses to the ones OpenDNS has. It’s free, and it has the added security of filtering out all the junk. Check it out :)
